ORCHESTRA TOUR SUMMER 2003

Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council's National Touring Programme (this is our fourth), the orchestra is giving five concerts this summer.

The music covers an engaging range from a joyful work by Mozart to intense late romantic music from Marion Bauer.

MENDELSSOHN Sinfonia No 12 in G minor
Marion BAUER Concertino for oboe, clarinet & strings
ELGAR Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op 20
MOZART Piano Concerto No 13 in C, K415

 This Sinfonia by Mendelssohn shows his astounding inventiveness as a 14 year old prodigy. Marion Bauer made an important contribution to American musical life as a composer, teacher and author; her Concertino has both gritty and impressionistic qualities in a beautifully expressive whole.

Elgar's Serenade is a perennial favourite. And the programme concludes with a brilliant Piano Concerto by Mozart, written in his early days in Vienna.
